The remnant

Micah 7:18-20 NLT
Where is another God like you, who pardons the guilt of the remnant, overlooking the sins of his special people? You will not stay angry with your people forever, because you delight in showing unfailing love. Once again you will have compassion on us. You will trample our sins under your feet and throw them into the depths of the ocean. You will show us your faithfulness and unfailing love as you promised to our ancestors Abraham and Jacob long ago.
In the short book of Micah, the prophet reveals how both Israel and Judah had perverted the image and character of God. Micah then, sets the record straight by re-asserting that God hates sin but loves the sinner. Therefore, He will bring judgement on both Israel and Judah – as well as the people of the earth – for their sin and rebellion against Him. Nevertheless, He also promises pardon and deliverance to the remnant of people who will follow Him.
God’s wrath and judgement exist because of his holiness; they cannot be separated from His character. But these characteristics should not push us away from God, but rather draw us nearer to Him. When we pursue God, as we should, we see His love in action, we see eternal life offered, and we see a holy god bringing compassion and mercy to the remnant; those holding fast to Him.
Church, hold fast to your God in these days. Amen!
