Talents and Passions
Yesterday we had our annual talent show where we had different people showcase different things (I would be more specific on what performances actually happened, but I am writing this devotional more than a month in advance, so we have not had sign-ups yet). But if you attended you would have seen people going up on stage and showcasing things that they are talented at doing.
There is a saying that goes “do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life”.
And 1 Corinthians 10:31 says- So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
Let me ask you this question: what are you good at doing?
You may not have a talent that would have been easily displayed on a stage, but God has gifted all of us with different talents and interests that we are better at doing than the next person.
You might be a good lawn care person who always has their lines straight when mowing and no dead spots in your lawn. You might be a good remote-controlled plane operator with a few different model planes at home that you fly regularly. You may have a passion for history for anything from the world wars to the Roman Empire. You may enjoy playing board games and opening your house to others to come and enjoy playing board games with you.
And so, the next question I ask is how can you take what you have a passion or talent for and “do it all for the glory of God”? With some interest and talents, it might take some time and planning to figure out how to use it for God. But through prayer and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, your ministry to God can be something that you love doing and you won't have to “work a day in your life” when it comes to ministry; because you look forward to doing it anyways.
So, today's devotional is to challenge you to take a look at your talents and passions and to think how they can be used for the glory of God!
God bless!
