Set Apart
Pastor Rachael
I begin today’s devotion asking that you be in prayer for Pastor David and Emily; they headed off to camp yesterday. Please pray that the campers have fun, build relationships, and stay safe. But most of all pray that they will experience a life changing encounter with the Lord.
With that said, I am preparing to attend camp – twice! I will be taking 5-7 year-olds, and then, later, taking 8-12 year-olds, so I will be needing much prayer myself!
I am reminded of last year’s camp theme: “Set Apart.” To be set apart means to be separated and dedicated for a special purpose by God. The term “set apart” can be found in both the Old and the New Testaments.
In the Old Testament, the nation of Israel was set apart as God’s chosen people (Exodus 19:6). And within the nation of Israel, priests and prophets were set apart to do God’s work (Numbers 3:10). Finally, in worship, there were even places and objects set apart for sacred use (Exodus 25).
In the New Testament, believers were set apart, through salvation, to bear spiritual fruit (Galatians 5:22-25), and to live holy lives (I Peter 1:14-16).
My challenge for you is that you will embrace the commands set before you to be “set apart” through your obedience to God’s Word and the leading of His Holy Spirit. Together, let’s strive to be the salt and the light we were intended to be. And let us persevere in our pursuit of holiness, by fulfilling the good works God has laid out before us.
Have a blessed week.
