Children Serving God
Pastor Rachael
Matthew 18:2-4
And calling to Him a child, He put him in the midst of them and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven."
Child-like humility consists of trust, vulnerability, and the natural response to seek the help, the direction, and the resources of a parent. In Matthew 18:2-4, Jesus implied that these were the exact same qualities necessary for effectively serving in His kingdom. Therefore, as a challenge to all adults, let me give you four examples from the Bible whereby children served God.
1.Helping (1 Sam. 3:1) As a small boy, Samuel helped Eli with everyday tasks in the temple. As adults, we have more resources than children, thereby enabling us to help in more complex ways. This week, I encourage you to find someone you can help – whether it be financially, spiritually, physically, or emotionally.
2.Witnessing (2 Kings 5:1-3; 14) Naaman’s servant girl had great faith and was bold in telling Naaman’s wife about a prophet in Israel who could heal him. This week, whether it be in word or deed, I encourage you to boldly share the Gospel.
3.Giving (John 6:5-11) The young boy did not have much to give; only five loaves of bread and a couple of fish. Nevertheless, he gave it all to Jesus, and Jesus used it to feed a multitude. This week, I encourage you to give God what you have – whether it be little or much – and see what He can accomplish with it.
4. Worshiping (Matthew 21:15-16) As Jesus approached the temple, the children welcomed Him with words of praise, saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David.” The Lord delights in those who praise Him. So, this week, I encourage you to give Him praise!
Have a blessed week!
