Stand Still

Pastor Ken

Exodus 14:13 (KJV)

Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.

These words are God’s command to the Christian who feels he’s been painted into a corner. He can’t retreat. He can’t go forward. He can’t go to the left or to the right. What is he supposed to do? He is to “stand still.”

Okay, but what exactly is standing still? It is a matter of positioning yourself so as to listen for the voice of God.

Don’t listen to despair, for despair would say, “Lie down and die. Give it all up.”

Don’t listen to cowardice, for cowardice would say, “Retreat! Go back to your old life. This Christian stuff is just too hard for you.”

Don’t listen to hastiness, for hastiness would say, “Don’t just stand there, do something!”

Don’t listen to presumption, for presumption would say, “Just go on and plow ahead. Maybe God will give you a miracle.”

Instead God would say, “Stand upright, be alert, and be ready for action, for that’s what standing still is. Standing still is positioning yourself for action the moment God says, “Move forward.”

If you are currently in a season of uncertainty, then wait. If you are in a season of doubt, then wait. Do not force yourself to any action. Practice restraint, stand still, and wait for the “all clear” signal from the Master.

Psalm 32:8 (ESV)

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.

Have a blessed day!
