Veterans Day
Pastor Rachael
John 15:12-13 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”
Many people get Veterans Day and Memorial Day confused. Memorial Day is to remember those who have served, who have passed on (In Memory Of…). Veterans Day is to remember those who have served and who are still with us. It is a day to say thank you for their service and their sacrifice.
In John 15, Jesus commands us to love one another as He has loved us. The standard for love among the disciples is a self-sacrificing love. Are you willing to sacrifice yourself for those that you love?
Jesus' death on the cross was the ultimate standard of love. Jesus gave everything for us. He could not have given a greater proof of His love for us. We, as believers, should follow His example. This does not mean that we have to die on a cross for our neighbor, but we need to love one another.
That is the greatest commandment that Jesus gave us in Matthew 22. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Today, as you thank those who have served our country, make sure that you are loving God AND loving people.
Have a blessed Monday.
