Colossians 3:1-3 (ESV)
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
The Scriptures contain the word “if” over 1,600 times and for good reason. It is probably one of the most important words in the Bible because, most of the time, it speaks directly of your responsibility to God.
For example, Colossians 3 conveys your responsibility to Christ’s resurrection, which is not to be viewed as an isolated extraordinary event, but rather the inauguration of a new order.
“If” you are a Christian, then you’re obliged to “rising” to the challenge of becoming a new person; one who’s no longer concerned with the trivial matters of this life. That’s not to say you’re no longer responsible to life’s demands, it’s just that, now, you weigh them against the background of eternity. It’s what “seek the things that are above,” means.
But to “resurrect” yourself, you must “set your minds on things that are above.” In other words, you must cooperate with the will of God by aligning yourself with His Word. The worries, ambitions, and values which once dominated your actions are meant to give way to a new way of doing things. Instead of getting, giving; instead of ruling, serving; and instead of avenging, forgiving.
Take a moment to examine yourself. Is there a sin for which you need to confess and repent? Is there a hurt you’re harboring? Is there a fear dominating your thoughts? Is there a change you need to make in your priorities or your lifestyle? Listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit and take the time to address these things. In light of eternity, it is time well spent!
Have a great Monday!
