Happy Labor Day!
Pastor Ken
Labor Day was originally intended to observe the social and economic achievements of the American worker. However, for most of today’s Americans, it simply marks the end of the summer season. The kids are back in school, football season is gearing up, the fall wreaths will soon be coming out in full force, Christmas is only about 100 days away, and before you know it, we will be welcoming a new year.
With that in mind, how would you say your “labor” for the Lord is coming along? Perhaps today would be a good day to examine how you’re doing. For example…
How proactive are you in “storing up God’s Word in your heart”? (Psalm 119:11)
Do you “pray about everything”? (Phil. 4:6-7)
Do you daily live out your faith by “making every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy”? (Heb. 12:14)
As you consider these questions, allow me to share with you some passages of Scripture to encourage you to “work” in pursuing your faith in these remaining months of the year.
I Corinthians 15:58 (ESV)Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.
John 6:27 Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you.
John 9:4 We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.
Colossians 3:17,23 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him….work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.
Happy Labor Day and Happy Monday
